So one day my sister Nancy calls me up and says: "Hey, want to come to Atlanta, Georgia with me for your birthday?" and I responded: "Is the Pope Catholic?". Funny thing is that there was a clause. See my sister had recently broken her foot and needed assistance along the trip, especially at the airport, but hey I'm her brother and I'm always willing to help out.
So where do I start? Well... the flight to Atlanta was one of the smoothest flights I've been on and I had brought my iPad along so Nancy and I could watch movies on the flight. We went straight to the hotel Hilton in downtown. One of the people that my sister works with had already scheduled us to have dinner, so we had just enough time to get our room and change our clothes. Why change our clothes? Because we were eating at a 5 star restaurant at the top of the Hilton. It was my very first time experiencing a 6 course meal and also my first time trying caviar. I had a tenderloin of lamb and it was amazing! Funny thing was, all our courses were TINY but at the end of the meal (which lasted like 2 and a half hours) I was incredibly full! It was like a 500 dollar dinner and Nancy & I didn't have to pay a cent! Awesome!
Nancy had to work most of the time, so I had the opportunity to roam the city and do what I love: photography. The same person who purchased our crazy expensive 5 course dinner, also took us for a tour of the town the next day to show me around. He took us to lunch where I had fried green tomatoes for the first time; they were amazing. Later that day we went to the Georgia Aquarium and it was spectacular to say the least. Not only do they have the largest aquarium on the planet, but in one of the tanks they have FOUR whale sharks and an amazing underwater tunnel. We got free tickets because one of Nancy's events was taking place there. I also went to the Martin Luther King National Historic site. The place was absolutely moving and a particular quote from MLK brought me to tears (see picture that talks about him in his kitchen). I got to see MLK and his wife's grave site/memorial. One in a lifetime opportunity!
My birthday occurred while on our trip and Nancy surprised me by taking me to this amazing place called "The Langston House" where many old style homes were moved to this place, restored and are rented out for people to stay at. In the main house, they have this amazing very fancy restaurant where 5 of Nancy's co-workers all surprised me for my birthday dinner. I had already gotten to know these guys pretty well from this trip and also when I got to know them when Nancy took me to DC. The whole place very much reminded me of the movie Forest Gump! The day after was our last FULL day in Georgia, so Nancy took me to the famous "Stone Mountain" where I got to have for the first time: fried pickles! This place is amazing, it's a huge all granite rock mountain that comes out of the earth where only 10% is above ground! We got to take a ride to the top via a gondola (no not a boat, the other kind). You could see the entire city from here 360 degrees.
All in all, our trip was fantastic and we had tons of fun and experiences Nancy and I will never forget (like getting lost in the ghetto, that's an entirely new post on it's own)! I got lots of great photos, so please check em out and let me know what you think.
